Hey everyone. Just as a reminder, signups for the next 3 Minute Dates end Wednesday night at 11:59 Central. 3MD will take place next Sunday, February 12, right at the start of sex pollen week because that's fun.

Right now... well, everything is bizarrely even. It's weird and almost unheard of. So you won't find me begging for any specific group to sign up. BUT if you'd like to, I'll find some way to deal with the balance being tipped a little. Anyway, please, feel free to sign up if you're interested and are available next Sunday.

Well, if you've been paying attention to how I do 3 Minute Dates, you probably realized this was coming up. But due to scheduling constraints both in Fandom and with a remarkably busy February for me, the only way to get 3MD into the month was to move it from its traditional Saturday spot onto a Sunday. So, Sunday, February 12th, 3 Minute Dates returns to Caritas!

Oh wait, that's during sex pollen week? WELL HOW'S THAT FOR A FUN COINCIDENCE? I love how the scheduling broke this time, I really do.

ANYWAY. For those of you who don't know or need a reminder, you sign up here, I pair you up with other signer uppers for five rounds of sweet, pollinated pinging action, and maybe your characters fall in love and get married and have babies. Or at least maybe you find a person or five to relieve some stress with. Just wait until you leave the bar, for the love of god.

The ground rules, as always:

*Three minutes will equal ten total pings, five each. Take another ping or two to wrap up if you need to, but please be efficient!

*3MD is open to both adults and teenagers. Teachers and students will NOT be paired together. Students and townies MAY be paired together if I can't avoid it and/or if they're close enough in age.

*A strong effort to pair people by sexual preference will be made. However, depending on how the lineups fall, gay/bi characters may end up with uninterested straight characters, and two straight characters of the same gender may get paired up. It happens sometimes. Sometimes there's a whole round just for that. It depends on the matchups. And, well, let's be honest. If you can't swing at least a little both ways during pollen week, you're defying the odds.

*You can sign up with as many on-island characters as you want, but please keep in mind that each one commits to 5 threads with people in all sorts of time zones. Try not to sign up more than you can handle so everyone can have a chance to complete all of their dates.

*The post will go up Saturday evening (February 11th) and will be available for slowplay for a couple days if you really need it. But the bulk of the playing should happen on Sunday. If you sign up and later find out that you won't be around at all on February 12, PLEASE let me know to take your characters off the list, especially if you've signed up with multiple characters. And if you know you won't be around at all that day, please don't sign up. It never feels good when somebody has a thread or two without any interaction.

*3MD will occur after sundown so that vampire characters can participate if they so choose.

REALITY SHOW WEEKEND!!

On Saturday, January 14, the denizens of Fandom (including students, teachers, townies and on-island alumni) will wake up thinking they are stars of reality shows. As you do. ( this takes some explaining, so click here )


On Monday, everyone will wake up as themselves, with everything back to normal. As always with this sort of thing, keep the lines of communication open, don't mod anyone unless you've cleared it, and just have fun. There's OCD below so you can brainstorm till your heart's content, so have at it!

Picture me flailing in futile and exaggeratedly comic rage if it makes this whole comment redesign thing just an infinitesimal amount better.

So while everyone else is enjoying Fall Break, Jamie will be here on the island doing his usual zany antics. As most of these antics are voluntary you may feel free to ignore Jamie as you wish. Especially since it will mostly involve Jamie making announcements using the PA System.

Office Redecoration

On the flip side: While everyone is out doing a service project, Jamie will be doing a service project of his own. Specifically: redecorating teacher's offices. This is strictly voluntary and up to the player if you wish to have the office redecorated, ping in below.

If you volunteer, I will run by any decorating changes before Jamie puts them into place.

All applications and workshops have been approved! I will be coming up with a schedule of events and e-mailing to all your royalty folks sometime tomorrow!

As usual, the convention is open to the public so anyone can come and watch!

Greetings from StuCo! With visitors coming to the island this weekend, there are a couple of activities that will be happening that we wanted to give a little heads up about.

Tours!- There will be daily posts to show your guests around some of the island and show them what the place has to offer. And if (for some strange reason) you'd rather keep them to their hotel room and not let them meet anyone you've ever met, well then it's a good thing these are voluntary.

Recital!- Taking place on Saturday, October 1, your characters will get a chance to show off their talents! You can go ahead and sign up, plan, rehearse, prewrite, have things go horribly wrong... You can get an introduction if you sign up by midnight PST on Friday night. And there will be an option in Saturday's post to crash the recital with a performance if that's more your thing. Open to all!

For everybody's convenience, for both BDEs and personal plots, we try to keep a running list of the various abilities possessed by FH characters; the last time we did this was in January, so three runs of newbies later seemed like a good time to catch up.

If you ever find yourself saying, "Hey, I need a magic user/archer/ninja/dork who has all the dialogue to Galaxy Quest memorized," this list of powers is meant to be there for you to take a look at. It's not mandatory; it just gives everybody a better reference when they're looking for people to help out with plots, and hey, might get your character roped into something fun!

Here's how we deal with updating this baby!

• All of the previous posts have been compiled into a spreadsheet that you can always head over to check; it's linked on the FH community info page.
  
  
• This post only needs to be filled out for new characters, or if you have a correction/update for your older ones. If your stuff is listed over on the spreadsheet and nothing's changed, there's no need to fill out that category again. (And my poor aging eyes will love you because it's one less cell to update on a seven-page spreadsheet.)
  
  
• Anything that is
  
  a) a canon power or ability of your character, or
  b) a skill/ability developed during their time in the game
  
  and could be used in a plot in some way, please list below in the correct thread. This is for all character types - students, teachers, townies and alumni/expats - and covers everything, not just the wacky powers. We also appreciate yer fighting, research, weapons, support skills and ability to speak Tev'Meck.



• The categories focus on "what can you do" instead of worrying about whether that's a magic or mutant or species-specific ability. So wacky powers are broken into spellcasting, psionic powers, and superhuman physical attributes, and non-wacky powers are divided into weapons, fighting, support, and miscellaneous (aka "It doesn't seem to fit in any of those groups, but dammit, you need to know that my character can do it!")

What is Princess Con? Where it's where your favorite fictional princesses can come to Fandom and have seminars, get pedicures and interact with all the princesses who are already currently on the island. The convention kicks off on October 7th and ends on October 9th.

• An application post for characters and workshops will be put up for all your applying needs!


• Different variations of the same character are welcome to apply however if there is an established character already on the island (Belle, Cinderella, Ariel, etc) then you must get permission from the respective mun's first.


• Additionally if you are applying for a character from someone else's fandom (Song of Fire and Ice, etc) they must get the current player's permission to use said character.


• If you are going to apply for a character from a Fandom already in the game, you need to contact any members privately via e-mail or AIM to give them a heads up


• If there's going to be any plotty stuff afoot as a result of your visitor coming to the island, please make sure you run it by the admins first.


• Remember that your character must be from a fictional source. No real life royalty please!


• No two identical characters are allowed to be at the convention. A knife fight/bribery will determine the outcome.

Really we're being flexible with the term "princess" here. If we're dealing with someone who falls into a princessy title or trope, I'd be okay with it. Makes sense?

Every time we've done Soap Opera Weekend in the past, it ended with me going "Well, we're just not going to top that one," and then I turn out to be wrong. And I don't know what the hell happened to you all this year, but somehow the weekend so far exceeded my expectations of crackiness. Thank you so much to everyone who participated and I'm so sorry to anyone who missed out. It was so much fun, I was pretty much dying laughing all weekend, and I love and fear you and your brains.

Hey all. Just a final reminder/attempt to convince people to help me to even things out a little bit... Signups will close Tuesday night at 11:59 PM Central.

The adults have pretty much evened out, so I'm not going to beg for signups there, although I will still encourage it. :D But the student girls have surged forward to overtake the boys 8-4. So, if you play a teenage boy (or girl, for that matter) who is interested in girls and will be around this upcoming Saturday, please give some thought to signing up. (I will still happily take more girls, of course. It all works out somehow!)

That's right, boys and girls! September 10-11 we are going to revisit the wonderful crack that comes out when your characters stop being polite, and start getting real. Or something. There'll be an alumni event on Friday, September 9 so alumni, students, teachers and townies can all be involved. Then on Saturday morning, you have the option of making them wake up as a soap opera character.

I'm also throwing down a comment below for brainstorming, should anyone have something they WANT to see that weekend that they don't automatically claim for themselves, or you want to find someone to be your new husband/wife/suspected babyparent/evil twin/supposedly-dead parent/Kelly to your Brenda.

What happens when you get a center of low plotty pressure and surround it with a system of high creative pressure? Well, hopefully it eventually comes together to form a brainstorm.

Now here's the place where you can sign your kids up for the workshops they're going to take! Remember, you can sign them up for as many as you want, but the goal is for their assignments to be workshops that are totally not appropriate for them. Like if Wesley got dumped in a workshop for pro wrestlers (which, alas, nobody apped). So! Workshop offerings are listed below! Go forth and sign your kids up for hilariously inappropriate things!
